This post goes along with my Bridal Shower baking guide! I made cake pops for my precious cousin’s bridal shower! I wanted a unique and fun bridal shower dessert, while also tying in my grandma’s recipes! This post is a guide on how I took my grandma’s cake recipe and adapted them to cake pops!
Baking Tips & Tricks
I used cake pop sticks, and a cake pop stand. My sweet husband actually built me a custom cake pop stand but this one is very similar! One key thing when I made the cake pops was using a cookie scoop to get the same size balls every time.
When adding the sticks to the cake balls, I learned that you need to add the cake pop sticks almost through the whole cake ball, not just part way, if you do not do this, the cake pop will crumble!
Baking Tools I used
How to make Cake Pops from Grandma’s Recipe
In the morning I baked my Grandma’s Simple White Cake according to the recipe. I baked it in a 9×13 pan for simplicity, which made add a bit of baking time to the recipe.
Once it was baked, I let the cake sit for about 10 minutes, then added the whole cake into a bowl. I used my hand mixer to beak up the crumbs into tiny uniform pieces. After that, I added about a cup of frosting and mixed it thoroughly. The consistency of the cake mixture should be like “wet sand” not completely creamy but it should stick together.
I then used my cookie scoop to create uniform balls and scooped them and used my hands to create a more circular ball, and laid them onto a cookie sheet. Let them refrigerate for about 4 hours.
Take the cake balls out of the refrigerator, and as I mentioned before, when adding the sticks, be sure to place them almost all the way to the other side of the cake ball. It is also helpful to dip the stick into a bit of melted candy to ensure they will stick better.
Once the sticks are there, you can start dipping the cake pop into melted candy melts. I colored some different colors! I used a bowl and melted the candy for a minute, then stirred the candy melts, and microwaved them for one more minute. You can also use the double boiler method!
I recommend dipping the cake pops and using a fork to help guide the cake pops out of the melted chocolate. You may need to allow the excess chocolate to fall off, or gently use your fork to scrape the excess off.
Place your freshly dipped cake pops into your cake pop stand! They will be good in the refrigerator for a few days!
