This is not a recipe that I inherited from my grandma but is more of a neat trick that I learned and it is a fun and easy way to make delicious butter at home! Another plus from this recipe is that a by-product of making butter is the buttermilk that it created when heavy whipping cream is whipped! This Homemade Butter recipe is very simple, (not your shaking a jar for 10 minutes as we did in elementary school) and the butter is delicious and way cheaper than buying butter from the store! You can even get creative and add herbs and spices and make your own herb butter, the possibilities are endless! This homemade butter recipe is sure to be a new favorite, and the homemade buttermilk goes great in my Buttermilk Honey Bread recipe!

What you need for this recipe:

How to make homemade butter & buttermilk

Some of the keys for this recipe are

  1. Having a Kitchen Aid mixer, or some kind of stand mixer. This makes whipping butter take no time at all, typically under 5 minutes!
  2. Using the whisk attachment– makes whipping even faster! The whisk is designed to bring air into things, creating the light and fluffy effect!
  3. Room temperature heavy whipping cream- this is not mandatory, but it makes the process go faster!
  4. Blotting the butter- Blotting the butter with a paper towel ensures that all the excess liquid is out. If there is leftover liquid, the butter will mold and go bad sooner.
