My recipe is in a MAGAZINE!!! My Buttermilk Honey Bread recipe was chosen for the Retro Redo column in Bake From Scratch magazine! Their test kitchen takes old recipes and gives them a new twist! It was such an amazing experience, talking with the editor, getting interviewed, and seeing how they brought a new spin on one of my favorite recipes! This baking blog has been such a fun hobby and I can’t wait to see what else is to come!
I saw a post on their Instagram about sending in old recipes that the feature for their Retro Redo Column. It was January 7th, and I submitted my Buttermilk Honey Bread recipe that I inherited from my Grandma. I got a general response the next day, “thank you for submitting, that recipe looks great” ect and after that, I honestly forgot about it. Until I got an email on January 14th saying they wanted to use my recipe as the basis for their Retro Redo! They said, “With your permission, we’d love to give it a modern twist while accompanying it with your personal story about the recipe, how it connects you to your grandmother, and who you love it.”
I cried at work, I was so thrilled! So, over the course of the next couple of months, I was interviewed by one of their editors, allowed to make edits to my story, and overall it was such a cool experience. They took my recipe and adapted it into Herbed Buttermilk Honey Dinner rolls, and I have to say, their test kitchen knows what they are doing! I felt like the traditional recipe was kept true while also incorporating new things, giving it a modern twist.
Here is a blurb from the interview:
“… there were many recipes that looked familiar, like the crumb cake recipe, but the collection also held plenty of surprises. One such revelation was the first recipe I bake from her collection, Buttermilk Honey Bread. It was so simple to make yet so fluffy and filled with flavor! The best part? I made the dough in my Granma’s original KitchenAid stand mixer.”
I never thought that when I started this blog, that one of the recipes would make it into a magazine. I truly just wanted to share my love of baking and all of the recipes I inherited from both of my Grandma’s. Even though my Grandma Naida is no longer with us, I have felt more connected to her than ever baking her recipes. I know that is something we would have shared if she was still here.
You can find the full recipe in the Bake From Scratch paper magazine, if they post a link on their website I will surely link it here 🙂
